Harry Shearer plays Nixon using Watergate tapes as a script

1969, Ex-Yugoslavia. Low profile agents Stipe and Pedja get a special assignment: to deliver a present from US president Richard Nixon to Yugoslavian president Tito at his summer residence on Brijuni Islands. Seems like task with zero chance to fail. But..

THE AMERICAN EXPERIENCE presents Nixon’s China Game, the story of an operation so secret that it managed to elude the international press, the members of Nixon’s cabinet, and even the US State Department. The documentary features never-before-seen footage of Kissinger’s secret mission to China, newly released transcripts of the negotiations, private diaries, Nixon’s own handwritten notes, and interviews with American and Chinese officials -- including those who were in on the covert plan, and those who were kept in the dark.

The enigmatic nature of the Nixon presidency combined comparatively progressive legislative initiatives with a flagrant abuse of presidential power and the public trust. His achievements in expanding peaceful relations with China and the Soviet Union stand in stark contrast with his continuation of the war in Vietnam. Finally brought down by scandal and duplicity, his administration did much to erode the citizenry's faith in government.

Leading historian David Reynolds takes a fresh look at the controversial career and embattled presidency of Richard Nixon. Reynolds argues that Nixon was genuinely successful as an international statesman, with his historic visits to communist China and the Soviet Union helping to thaw the Cold War. Yet behind the scenes, Nixon's diplomacy was a story of intrigue and rivalry. The methods that won him acclaim on the international stage also doomed his presidency in the infamous Watergate scandal. An intimate psychological profile, the film reveals how Nixon was driven by a deep inferiority complex and ruthless ambition to escape a loveless, impoverished background. Nixon clawed his way to the most powerful job in the world yet could never shake off this past. With the help of Nixon's scribbled memos, audio recordings and rarely seen home movie footage and photos, the film throws new light on Nixon's obsessive secrecy, relentless deception and paranoid mistrust of key aides, especially his foreign policy adviser Henry Kissinger. Shy and tortured, Nixon ran his presidency largely from a hideaway office across the road from the White House. The film recreates this, his 'den', the place where Nixon dreamed of greatness but was haunted by his demons.

A candidate at an election ,afraid of a gangster at large , asks his cousin to take his place :they're as like as two peas in a pod.

NIXON'S NATIONAL CHAMPS is the story of how the 1969 college football national champion was crowned and the drama that surrounded it. Using rare footage of Nixon and his unexpected antagonist, Joe Paterno of Penn State, this film captures the folly of the President as he waded through the hornet's nest of polls and regional rivalries.
